Ah, the shoe finally drops

Via DUB, I see that the Religious Wrong has already put the proper theological interpretation to the Hurricane Katrina debacle. Way to go, guys, what took you so long?

UPDATE (10:26 PM) The Christian Coalition of America's website has no links to the American Red Cross, or any other relief organization for that matter. However, under "Today's News", you can link to an Agape Press story in which one Rev. Bill Shanks discerns God's mercy in action over the past week:
“New Orleans now is abortion free. New Orleans now is Mardi Gras free. New Orleans now is free of Southern Decadence and the sodomites, the witchcraft workers, false religion -- it's free of all of those things now," Shanks says. "God simply, I believe, in His mercy purged all of that stuff out of there -- and now we're going to start over again."
Surely Rev. Shanks speaks from the eye of the storm, so to speak, from downtown N.O. where he's busy spreading God's love as we speak by helping the victims of the storm and its aftermath. Right? Um, well, actually...according to the article, "
Shanks heeded warnings to evacuate New Orleans, and is currently staying with friends in the Jackson, Mississippi, area".

A good round-up of the predictable hate-fueled nuttiness, including comparisons of satellite images of Katrina to a fetus, appears on the (non-hateful, non-nutty) Christian Alliance For Progress' blog.

I checked out your links to the Christian Coalition. You were right. In fact, they had no links for Katrina relief, tsunami relief, nor Darfur relief. So much for their charitable ideal. What makes them this way? Certainly not christian charity.

The CC may (by now) have Pat Robertson's Operation Blessing up as a possible charity, as FEMA does. I'm don't have the stomach to go to the site and see.

The Evangelical Atheist has a post about another reason the Gulf Coast residents have been so harshly punished by their ever-so-loving god. It basically boils down to America supporting Israel's "exodus" from the West Bank and Gaza Strip. I've actually had people suggest this one to my face.

Mindboggling.

Is god just fortunate that so many sinners live in the natural path of hurricanes? When's he gonna get off his lazy ass and do something like throw storms in his righteous fury at places that have sinners and no natural storms or shake the earth mightily in his wrath where the ground is stable and the sodomites plentiful?

Now that is some serious stuff. What a nutcase! New Orleans cannot be New Orleans without Mardi-Gras, sinners, witches, and the like. I mean, take them away and you have Pat Robertson's ideal land: A stagnant, repulsive land of self righteous bigots.
